New York housing market saw June increase

Sales of existing single-family homes in New York in June showed a more than 17 percent increase, compared to May 2007, and a nearly 9 percent increase in statewide median sales price when compared to the previous month, according to data from the New York State Association of REALTORS.

The June sales total of 9,381 represents at 17.8 percent increase compared to the May 2007 sales total of 7,961. The June 2007 total represents a 14.7 percent decrease compared to the June 2006 sales total of 10,996.

The June 2007 statewide median sales price of $250,000 represents an 8.7 percent increase compared to the May 2007 median sale price of $230,000. It is a 3.5 percent decrease compared to the June 2006 statewide median price of $259,000.

Counties reporting gains in the median selling priced compared to May 2007 were 29 counties, while 33 posted gains compared to June 2006.
