Disaster Planning and Insurance Coverage Helped Ensure Only Minor Disruption for Members and Providers When Fire Hit Manhattan-Based Health Insurance Company
New York, NY, June 2, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Atlantis Health Plan today officially opens its new 16,000 sq. ft. office space on 45 Broadway, suite 300 with a ribbon-cutting and welcoming of leading health insurance brokers in the New York City area and other guests. Atlantis had been operating temporarily at 48 Wall St. following an electrical fire of unknown origin on Nov. 25, 2008, at its prior offices located at 39 Broadway.
Approximately 100 employees work in the new Atlantis corporate headquarters, leased from corporate realtor Cammeby International. The new space is approximately 5,000 sq. ft. larger than the former corporate office, which Atlantis had used since its founding in 2001. The company also has an office in New Jersey.
After the fire, data and phone systems were disrupted for a short period of time. Despite an estimated $1 million in damages to its operation, Atlantis members and provider experienced less than one business day’s disruption. Solid back-up systems saved medical and payment records.
“Our disaster recovery plan was in place and initiated within hours of the fire,” said Dr. Sury Anand, CEO and Chairman of Atlantis Health Plan, which he co-founded with 11 other physicians in 2001. “The fire tested our ability to communicate, but we overcame the obstacles despite great difficulties. I’m proud of our team and happy to be in our new home.”
“All Atlantis medical records are backed up at two offsite centers, so no data was lost,” said Tom Dwyer, COO of Atlantis Health Plan. “The past few months have been challenging, we have used this crisis as an opportunity to upgrade our telecommunications infrastructure. Fortunately, our costs were covered 100 percent by Chubb, our insurance company.”
