Schumer Announces Over $46,000 Coming To Schenectady To Help Homeless Veterans
Washington, DC – October 7, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced today that the Altamont Program, Inc. in Schenectady will receive $46,332 as part of a Department of Veterans Affairs efforts to provide housing and support services to homeless veterans. The funding, administered through the VA’s Capital Homeless Providers Grant, will fund a shelter and 12 new beds for those veterans.
“This funding will help give the brave men and women who fought to protect our country access to much-needed shelter and support services,” Schumer said. “Our veterans have served our country and in return we must serve them. The least we can do is make sure they have a roof over their head in the nation they fought to protect.”
VA’s Capital Homeless Providers Grant is offered annually by the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Programs to fund community agencies providing services to homeless Veterans. The purpose is to promote the development and provision of supportive housing and/or supportive services with the goal of helping homeless Veterans achieve residential stability, increase their skill levels and/or income, and obtain greater self-determination.
