OTDA Helps Open Homeless Housing Project in Albany
Albany, NY – November 3, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) recently helped Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless open its new Sheridan Hollow Housing project, while recognizing November as Homeless Awareness Month, at an event in Albany.
The new facility, built with $1.82 million from OTDA’s Homeless Housing and Assistance Program (HHAP), is providing ten units of permanent housing for chronically homeless individuals and families with disabilities.
Beth Berlin, Executive Deputy Commissioner of OTDA, also presented a Proclamation from Governor David A. Paterson marking November as Homeless Awareness Month in New York State.
“The Governor, and we at OTDA, strongly believe that New Yorkers should have access to affordable, safe, stable and adequate housing and the opportunity to be contributing members of society,” Berlin said. “The work of Interfaith is truly representative of our mission at OTDA: to provide support services that will not only meet the immediate needs of low-income individuals and households, but will also serve to provide opportunities for achieving economic security and stability in the long-term.”
Other local officials present at the ceremony included Albany County Executive Mike Breslin, Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino, Schenectady County Legislature Chair Susan Savage, and Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings.
