NYSERDA Joins Businesses to Showcase Ways Homeowners Can Save Energy and Money with Alternative Energy and Home Improvements

Albany, NY – January 28, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — It’s never been easier to find out how to cut your energy costs and make your home more environmentally friendly than at this year’s Great Northeast Home Show.  Held this weekend at the Times Union Center in Albany, this year’s Home Show offers more resources than ever for homeowners who are looking for ways to save money by using less energy.

“Today, more New Yorkers are going green than ever before.  But there are still many people out there who don’t know where or how to start,” said Frank Murray, president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which offers homeowners an array of services to reduce energy usage and spending.  “The Great Northeast Home Show is a great opportunity to find the best approaches for your house, as well as to learn about all the many incentives available to help cut costs of home energy improvements, energy efficient appliances, solar-electric panels, and more.”

This year’s show offers seminars from NYSERDA and a wide variety of businesses on a full range of energy topics including increasing your home’s energy efficiency, solar energy for homes, geothermal energy, solar thermal heating, power management solutions, and advanced energy auditing, among others.  In addition, the home show this year offers more exhibitors with alternative energy products than ever before.

NYSERDA representatives will provide extensive information on its Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®.  This program provides  Comprehensive Home Assessments to show you where energy is escaping from your home, estimates the money you can save with improvements, and offers incentives and financing to help make these improvements more affordable.  Homeowners who participate in the program  are eligible for incentives and income-eligible New Yorkers may qualify for a subsidy of up to $5,000 for improvements.

The NYSERDA booth also will have information about the “Great Appliance Swap Out,” which will offer rebates for trading in old appliances for new, energy-efficient models.  The rebate program, which begins February 12, will offer rebates ranging from $50-$105 for a single unit and up to $555 for the purchase of a three-appliance package.

Homeowners also can learn about the cash incentives NYSERDA provides to help make it more affordable to install new Solar Electric or Photovoltaic (PV) systems by Eligible Installers.  These incentives can cut the costs of PV systems by at least 20 percent, and federal and state tax credits will reduce these costs even more.
