Crowley Joins An Angel in Queens Founder Jorge Muñoz to Distribute Meals for the Homeless, Unemployed

Two days after Muñoz is Crowley’s special guest at the State of the Union, Crowley teams up with him to battle hunger

Queens, NY – February 4, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — On Thursday, January 30th, U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) joined An Angel in Queens Founder Jorge Muñoz to distribute meals to homeless and unemployed New Yorkers on Roosevelt Avenue and 73rd Street in Jackson Heights. Muñoz, a community leader in the battle against hunger, has served over 225,000 home-cooked meals since 2004. Just two days prior, Crowley hosted Muñoz at President Obama’s State of the Union address and recognized him for his commitment to helping communities in need.

“For many years I’ve known of Jorge’s work here in Queens, but to be able to contribute to this noble cause and see first-hand the work that he and his family are engaged in, is remarkable,” said Rep. Crowley, who helped feed over 100 people on Thursday night. “Each night, too many New Yorkers are going to bed hungry, and more has to be done to help families in need. I am proud to have joined Jorge in his mission and I thank all the An Angel in Queens volunteers for their commitment.”

Crowley has been a leader in Congress in the fight against hunger and is an outspoken advocate for critical nutrition programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or “food stamps”). He recently voted against legislation that slashed SNAP benefits for working families and their children, including 208,000 families in New York City, by over $8 billion.

Congressman Crowley is the eight-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives.
