Rep. Engel Announces $492,000 HUD Grant for Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 27, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Eliot Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $492,000 grant to the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers. The grant, part of the Residential Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency – Service Coordinators (ROSS-SC) program, will provide funding for non-profit organizations to hire Service Coordinators to synchronize supportive services and other activities designed to help public housing residents achieve economic and housing self-sufficiency.

“I grew up in public housing, and I believe it is important for government to do what it can to support the residents who live in those developments,” Congressman Engel said. “The federal funds HUD has allocated for the hiring of Service Coordinators will benefit the residents of the Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority. These coordinators can act as a resource for folks who are looking to put themselves on more sound financial footing—a valuable asset, especially in times of economic uncertainty. I applaud HUD for making the residents of the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers a priority.”
