Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins Urges Communities To Apply for the New NY Bridge’s $20 Million Community Benefits Program

Tarrytown, NY – March 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins announces that applications are being accepted for the $20 million, new NY Bridge Community Benefits Program. The 35th State Senate District that Senator Stewart-Cousins’ represents includes Tarrytown and other rivertowns within the Town of Greenburgh where the bridge is being constructed.

“With the largest infrastructure project in the country continuing right here in Tarrytown, I urge communities to apply for these grants made available through the New York State Thruway Authority and the new bridge’s construction company,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins.

The $20 million Community Benefits Program is made up of equal contributions from the state Thruway Authority and Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC. Projects eligible for consideration are those that maintain and enhance natural assets, local infrastructure, safety, recreational opportunities, and quality of life for communities in Westchester and Rockland counties. The program will be available until early 2017, or until all funds are exhausted.

Projects eligible for funding through the new NY BRIDGE COMMUNITY BENEFITS PROGRAM include:
•Preserve and rehabilitate local infrastructure in the area of the New NY Bridge
•Enhance local recreational opportunities in the area
•Expand pedestrian, bicyclist and transit user access to the new bridge
•Improve road safety features for all users accessing the new bridge
•Enhance emergency response in the area
•Projects that will have a positive impact on the quality of life for residents and communities in Westchester and Rockland counties

The CBP Grant Review Committee will review letters of interest and determine whether to invite applicants to submit a formal application. Requests will be reviewed and grants will be made until early 2017 or until all funds in the $20 million CBP program are committed, whichever comes first.
