New Roadway Pattern On Southbound West Street

Beginning on May 27, 2008 the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will shift southbound traffic on West Street to the west through the Albany Street intersection.  The realignment work will require single lane closures on southbound West Street on May 27, 2008.

Pedestrian access across West Street at Albany Street will be maintained.  In preparation for the roadway shift, the crosswalk was relocated on May 22, 2008 from the north side of the street to the south side to accommodate reconstruction of the pavement on the north side of the intersection.  Flag persons are stationed at the Albany Street crosswalk during working hours to assist pedestrians.  Pedestrians may also use the Rector Street Pedestrian Bridge to cross West Street.

This phase of construction will be in place for approximately four weeks. This work may include some nighttime activities.  If required, NYSDOT will keep the noise within the Environmental Performance Commitments set forth by the City of New York and has additionally outfitted nighttime vehicles with smart back up beepers at the request of the community to minimize impacts.
