NYS Affordable Housing Corporation Approves $300,000 Grant to Renovate 30 Syracuse Homes

NEW YORK, NY – June 4, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The board of the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation (AHC) today approved a $300,000 grant to Home HeadQuarters (HHQ) to help finance home improvements for 30 homes in the City of Syracuse.

“This grant is designed to help improve the aging housing stock in central New York,” said Priscilla Almodovar, AHC President and Chief Executive Officer. “It also reinforces Governor David A. Paterson’s mission to make New York State a better place to live and work.”

The AHC grant will be used to renovate 30 single-family homes in Syracuse. These homes are located in neighborhoods designated as revitalization and transitional areas. The types of improvements will include structural repairs, roof replacements, door and window replacements, hard-wired smoke detectors, and may also address electrical, plumbing, lead, furnace and duct work.

“New York State Affordable Housing Corporation funding is a crucial component in helping Home HeadQuarters improve the safety, value and livability of Syracuse homes,” said Kerry Quaglia, Executive Director of Home HeadQuarters. “Thirty local families will now be better equipped to sustain their successful homeownership.”

AHC funding supports Home HeadQuarters’existing home improvement program. Homeowners are able to apply for assistance by calling the agency at 315-474-1939 or by visiting its website at www.homehq.org. The grants will be limited to households earning up to $57,075 for a family of four.

The total cost of the project is $789,203. In addition to the AHC grant, the program will help leverage $60,000 in Energy Smart funds provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and $277,203 in Community Development Block Grant funds (CDBG) provided by the City of Syracuse.
