Building Affordable Housing for Families in the Bronx

New Destiny Housing Corporation, a non-profit developer of affordable housing for families, has started construction on its newest mixed income housing project – The Jennings, located on Jennings Street in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx. The Jennings will be an eight-story building with 42 apartments affordable for low-income households from the community with 23 apartments reserved for families coming from New York City domestic violence shelters. Project completion is expected in spring 2019.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and the Chair of the Committee on Aging Steven Cymbrowitz announced the passage of several measures to strengthen the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) and Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) programs that preserve affordable housing for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The sale of this site will bring in an estimated $4 million in revenue to the Housing Authority, a critical component in preserving public housing in a time of diminishing Federal spending
