New York, NY – August 15, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Eliot Engel is working with the Coalition for the Homeless to help the city’s homeless children get ready for school by taking part in ‘Project: Back To School,” a drive to collect school supplies for the more than 21,000 school age children now living in homeless shelters.
From August 26 to September 20, donations may be dropped off at Rep. Engel’s Riverdale office at 3655 Johnson Ave. The Coalition for the Homeless is collecting supplies for students K-12, and a full list of desired donations can be found on the project’s website at www.coalitionforthehomeless.org/backtoschool
“This is a great cause that I am proud to be a part of,” Rep. Engel said. “I ask my constituents to donate backpacks, pens, or any other school supplies at my office, as they have before, to help our City’s homeless children prepare for the new academic year. No child should be without the tools they need to succeed in school.”
As the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct services organization, the Coalition for the Homeless works to help homeless families by conducting programs including a summer sleep-away camp and after-school program for homeless children as well as a mobile soup kitchen.
