West Babylon, NY – August 23, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — The Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) kicked off its Realtors Against Hunger campaign to support several Long Island hunger relief organizations during a recent LI Ducks ball game at Citibank Park . Realtors Against Hunger (RAH) will be collecting donations of non perishable food items from August 1 – 15 at various realty offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens to support Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, Island Harvest, the Long Island Council of Churches and the Queens Federation of Churches in their efforts to provide food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry. “With more than 300,000 children and adults facing hunger or potential malnutrition in the tri county region, LIBOR is responding to the needs of our communities,” said Mohsen Zandieh, LIBOR President. President-elect Buddy Hoosein threw a ceremonial first pitch to support the efforts during the opening of the Long Island Duck’s game.
Realtors Against Hunger is a part of the Long Island Board of Realtors “We’re More Than Realtors” initiative that supports numerous programs and charitable community organizations. Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank accepted donations of non-perishable food at the game. “We’re very grateful to the Long Island Board of Realtors and their Realtors Against Hunger campaign that will support the work of our network of more than 540 member agencies that feed the hungry on Long Island, said Paule Pachter, Executive Director, Long Island Cares. “The support of LIBOR and their affiliates throughout the tri-county region is especially needed during these very difficult economic times when so many families are finding it hard to put nutritious food on their
tables while the cost of fuel and basic food staples are dramatically increasing,” explained Pachter.
Food donations can be brought to Realtor Service Centers and participating LIBOR offices. “As professional realtors we are witnessing first-hand the impact of the economy on families which is causing them to have little or no food. We cannot stand by and watch families in our communities struggle,” explained Joe Sinnona, Co-Chair of LIBOR PR Committee.
