STAMFORD, CT – June 14, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) has honored Malkin Construction and fellow project team members with an Award of Merit in the K-12 Schools category for their work on the recently completed Stratfield Elementary School project. The award was conferred at CBC’s annual Project Team Awards Banquet on June 12.
The $17.3-million, ten-phase project began in the summer of 2009. Before the start of the 2010-11 school year, Malkin Construction added eight new classrooms, renovated all of the eastern classrooms and built an addition to house the school’s administrators.
While school was in session, the team renovated all of the southern classrooms between November 2010 and July 2011. Finally, in accordance with its original projected completion date of September 2011, Malkin Construction spent the summer of 2011 renovating the gym, cafeteria, kitchen, media center and the older administrative area; installing a bus canopy and courtyard; and finalizing all remaining site work.
“All of our partners in this endeavor did a commendable job staying on top of a series of increasingly rigid deadlines, and it feels great to be honored alongside them,” says Timothy Yahn, president of Malkin Construction. “It took two years of solid teamwork to make sure that the Stratfield School could continue classes uninterrupted while we completed the renovation for the 2011-12 school year on time. We greatly appreciate CBC acknowledging our efforts.”
The CBC is an active organization with representatives from every facet of the building industry – architects, engineers, owners, attorneys, bankers, contractors, developers, consultants and suppliers. Its members assemble monthly with keynote speakers to discuss issues of mutual interest, share business information and leads, and learn about events that shape the building industry.
CBC’s award ceremony was held in The Bond Ballroom at the Hilton Homewood Suites in Hartford, Conn, and was moderated by CBC President Martin Onorato.
