City of Rochester, NY – March 30, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor Lovely Warren visited a worksite to thank youth and adult volunteers on the first day of the Flower City Work Camp, a faith-based organization comprised of more than 40 churches throughout Monroe County providing home improvements for city homeowners who are unable to make repairs themselves. More than 700 youth and 300 adult volunteers from the churches are working at 52 homes throughout the city during Spring Recess.
“In our efforts to make Rochester’s streets safer, create more jobs and better schools, we must all work together,” said Mayor Warren. “On behalf of the citizens of Rochester, I thank all of the Flower City Work Camp volunteers for donating their spring break to make a difference in people’s lives.”
Flower City Work Camp has been in operation since 1989. Each project is led by a Worksite Leader, who leads the youth in doing interior and exterior work such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, flooring, cleaning, drywall, demolition, replacing doors, cabinets, windows and more.
The City supports this activity by helping to select qualified homeowners for the program and by providing services such as smoke detector inspections and extra trash removal at the work sites.
