NYS Affordable Housing Corporation Approves $300,000 Grant to Finance Home Renovations in Rochester

NEW YORK—Thursday, June 12, 2008—The board of the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation (AHC) has approved a $300,000 grant to Group 14621 Community Association, Inc. to finance home improvements for 35 housing units located in the 14621 zip code in the City of Rochester.

“This grant is part of the Affordable Housing Corporation’s continuing effort to improve the aging housing stock in the City of Rochester,” said Priscilla Almodovar, AHC President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our grant—which will help finance new roofs, new boilers and new heating and electrical systems—demonstrates our commitment to upgrading affordable housing and enriching communities all across the state.”

Eugenio Cotto, Jr., Executive Director of the Group 14621 Community Association, Inc., said, “With the economic struggles that neighborhoods face to improve the housing stock and with declining financial aid to help low- and moderate-income homeowners, we at Group 14621 Community Association, Inc., welcome the continued support received by AHC in western New York.”

The AHC grant will finance repairs to 25 single-family and five two-family homes and will include renovations of major systems such as heating, electrical, plumbing, and roofs, and addressing any lead-based paint hazards.

In the first phase of the project, homes between Joseph and Hudson Avenues from Norton Street to Avenue D will receive repairs. In the second phase, the project will be expanded to homes to the east to North Street, to the west to North Clinton Street and to the south along Avenue D. The third phase will expand south to Clifford Avenue.

Grants will be limited to homeowners earning up to $57,456 for a family of four. Eligible homeowners will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

The total cost of the project is $707,000. In addition to the AHC grant, the project will receive $80,000 in Community Development Block Grant/Residential Assistance Program funds provided by the City of Rochester and $327,000 in Affordable Housing Program funds provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.
