Detour Set for Span in Hamlin, Monroe County
New York – June 29, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today announced that construction is underway on a $1.1 million project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying State Route 19 over Sandy Creek in the town of Hamlin, Monroe County. The bridge will be closed to traffic for the construction beginning Monday, July 6.
“This extensive bridge rehabilitation will make Route 19 safer for those who live and work in Hamlin,” Commissioner McDonald said. “Under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s leadership, we strive to keep traffic impacts to a minimum and — in this case — determined that a short detour during construction is the most efficient way to progress.”
The project will include repairing the bridge abutments and pier, reconstructing the roadway approaches, and replacing structural steel and the concrete bridge deck. A new parking lot for fishing access will be built at the northwest corner of the bridge.
“It is great to work with NYSDOT to improve the roads and bridges in our community,” Senator Joseph Robach said. “This is a major investment in the Town of Hamlin that will improve the safety of our transportation infrastructure.”
Assemblyman Steve Hawley said, “I am pleased to see that necessary infrastructure repair and construction is taking place in my district. Well-maintained bridges, roads and highways are the backbone of our economy and allow business people and residents to safely and efficiently travel. This repair is not only important to local businesses that use the bridge to transport products, but also to local families who deserve peace of mind when traveling around the Town of Hamlin.”
A posted detour directs motorists to use N. Hamlin Road, Lake Road West Fork and Moscow Road. The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic next summer.
The bridge rehabilitation is beginning with demolition of the existing bridge deck. The bridge was constructed in 1959. An estimated 1,700 vehicles use this section of highway each day.
The construction contractor for the project is Ramsey Constructors, of Lakeville, Livingston County.
