Homes sold at a record-setting pace across New York State during August with 13,912 closed sales, according to the housing market report released today by the New York State Association of REALTORS®. The previous record was 12,938 closed sales in August 2007. The statewide median sales price increased 3.8 percent compared to August 2015.

This week, Senior Member of the House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05), led eight Members of the New York City congressional delegation in sending a bipartisan letter [letter below] to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Housing Finance Agency urging the agencies to completely stop and revamp bulk sales of distressed properties.

East New Yorkers celebrated the completion of the rehabilitation of 468 homes and the start of construction on 242 affordable apartments today. BRP Companies is the lead on both of the new construction and the preservation projects which have a combined total of 710 units of affordable housing. In addition to much-needed affordable housing, the new construction project will create 30,000 square feet of community and retail space to enrich the East New York Community. All work is being completed through a partnership with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC)

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today the arrests of Alexander March, 34, and his wife Sima March, 35, for their roles in an alleged residential mortgage fraud scheme. Both Marches were indicted in May 2011 on charges of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, but fled to Canada before they could be arrested. After years of extradition proceedings, the Marches surrendered to New York State authorities yesterday at the Canadian border and were arraigned in Onondaga County Court

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $119,230 in federal funding for infrastructure projects at the Randall Airport operated by the Aerodrome Development Corporation. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Program. The Randall Airport will use the funding to purchase .247 acres of land needed for future airport development, and to rehabilitate over 8,700 square yards of the existing apron to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2,808,000 in federal funding for the Griffiss International Airport located in Rome. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This federal funding will enable the airport to construct a snow removal equipment building, so it can safely and efficiently store the tools that will allow it to keep runways and taxiways clear during all months of the year

The awards, made following a Request for Proposals issued in June, will support the ongoing service and operating expenses of supportive housing projects. This funding will be made available to supportive housing providers under five-year contracts which are renewable at the end of their term. New York State Homes and Community Renewal and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance will work with supportive housing providers who have received these conditional contract awards to secure the capital funding needed to complete supportive housing projects. These awards represent a major step forward in the Governor’s unprecedented $2.6 billion, five-year plan to construct 6,000 new supportive housing units across New York State
