Washington D.C. – July 1, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced today that the Hornell YMCA has been awarded a $400,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As an Economic Development Initiative Special Project Grant, the funding will facilitate the construction of a new YMCA facility in support of its cultural programs.
“The new YMCA facility will allow more families in Hornell and the surrounding communities to enjoy both new and existing programs,” said Schumer. “With the construction of the new facility the YMCA will also be able to provide new art and music programs and provide a safe and accessible place for families and their children to spend time.”
HUD’s Economic Development Initiative grants support local governments and organizations by financing revitalization projects. In Hornell, the project will enhance the YMCA’s commitment to helping children and youth deepen positive values, their commitment to service and their motivation to learn, families build stronger bonds, spend time together and become more engaged with their communities, and individuals strengthen their spiritual, mental and physical well-being.
