Federal Funding Will Be Used To Upgrade Waste and Water Disposal Systems
WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 30, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $632,000 in federal grant funding and a $222,000 federal loan for the Town of Saranac in Clinton County to help finance improvements to Standish Water District. Funding was allocated through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program.
“This federal funding is great news for Town of Saranac and Clinton County,” said Senator Schumer. “Improving the water system is a wise infrastructure investment that will create jobs in the short-term and enhance public health, public safety and economic development in the long-term. This federal funding will take a tremendous financial burden off of the county and taxpayers and help ensure the long-term health and prosperity of this town and its residents.”
“This is a critical investment in the Town of Saranac’s water infrastructure,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding will enable the Town of Saranac to make necessary upgrades to the water system and it will help ensure local taxpayers aren’t left to foot the bill alone.”
The Standish Water District currently supplies water to 54 users and funding would allow the Town of Saranac to provide for required upgrades to the water system storage and treatment plant, and to install an additional well.
USDA’s Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program provides state and local governments, non-profits and tribal governments funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in rural areas.
