Tax Credit Finance Team Joins Nixon Peabody’s NYC Office; New Partners Alan Cohen and Mark Kreitman Were Former Leaders of Paul Hastings’ Affordable Housing Tax Credit Practice

New York, NY. – September 6, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP has expanded its Tax Credit Finance and Syndication practice in New York City with the arrival of two partners Alan S. Cohen and Mark A. Kreitman, associate Amy Curry, and paralegal George Steiner. Mr. Cohen and Mr. Kreitman most recently led Paul Hastings’ affordable housing tax credit practice.

Mr. Cohen’s practice has for the past thirty years focused on tax advantaged investments, with an emphasis on capital formation and transactional structuring. He has participated in transactions that have raised more than $14 billion from investors and involved the acquisition of more than $30 billion of assets. Mr. Cohen represents tax credit equity sponsors and investors in providing equity and debt for affordable housing, historic rehabilitations, energy, and community redevelopment projects.

Mr. Kreitman concentrates his practice in the area of affordable housing and tax credits.

He has represented public companies, private equity funds, and private companies in all aspects of public and private affordable housing syndications, including both property acquisition and placement of tax credit equity and debt. Mr. Kreitman’s practice involves resolution of substantive partnership, real estate, tax, regulatory, environmental, and community development issues.

Mr. Cohen is a graduate of George Washington University, where he received his B.A. in political science. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from New York Law School, where he was editor of the Law Review and presently is a member of the faculty. He is a member of the board of the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition, the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association, and the Jewish Community Housing Corporation. Mr. Kreitman earned his B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School. Mr. Kreitman is a member of several affordable housing organizations, including the ABA Forum on Affordable Housing, the NYC Bar Association Committee on Housing and Urban Development, and the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH).
