Joint Statement from U.S. EPA and NYSDEC on Projects Related to New Tappan Zee Bridge

New York – May 12, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — New York State and the EPA have worked closely together for decades in providing clean water financing to protect public health and the environment at an affordable cost. This partnership, both regionally and nationally, has helped make the New York’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund one of the best in the nation.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and New York State have reached agreement on projects related to the new Tappan Zee Bridge for which the state had proposed to use the Clean Water Act State Revolving Fund.

The EPA and the State of New York have agreed that two additional projects – the Oyster Bed Restoration (valued at $1.2 million) and the Falcon Nest Box (valued at $100,000) – will be financed. EPA already approved five estuary improvement projects, related to the bridge, that were funded through the NY Clean Water SRF in 2014. New York State has agreed to withdraw its objections to the EPA’s decision that funding is not appropriate for all other projects that had been in dispute.

New York State and EPA remain committed to providing funding for water quality improvements through the State Revolving Loan Fund.
