Governor Cuomo Announces $5.8 Million to Rehabilitate and Repair 338 Owner-Occupied Homes Across New York

Program has Awarded Nearly $174 Million to Build or Improve more than 9,000 Homes to Date

New York – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $5.8 million to construct, rehabilitate and improve the homes of 338 income-eligible families across New York. The funds are awarded through New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s Affordable Home Ownership Development Program, administered by the Affordable Housing Corporation. To date, the program has awarded nearly $174 million to create or improve more than 9,000 homes.

“This funding will help more New Yorkers in every corner of this state achieve and preserve the American Dream of homeownership,” Governor Cuomo said. “With this program, we are taking one more step toward ensuring every New Yorker has the opportunity to have a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.”

The awards announced today will make improvements to existing owner-occupied single or multi-family homes, condominiums or cooperatives; acquire and rehabilitate owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; and construct new owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives including dilapidated and manufactured homes.

These awards epitomize Governor Cuomo’s commitment to ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to affordable homes.”

Awards include:

Nearly $1.8 million for 89 homes in Western NY:

  • $750,000 grant to Cattaraugus Community Action, Inc. to assist with the improvement of approximately 39 units located on scattered sites in Cattaraugus County
  • $400,000 grant to Citizen’s Opportunity for Development and Equality, Inc. to assist with the improvement of approximately 16 units located on scattered sites in the City of Jamestown, Chautauqua County
  • $140,000 grant to Citizen’s Opportunity for Development and Equality, Inc. to assist with the acquisition and rehabilitation of approximately four units on scattered sites in the City of Jamestown and Chautauqua County
  • $500,000 grant to Buffalo Neighborhood Stabilization Co., Inc., to assist with the improvement of approximately 30 units on scattered sites on the west side of the City of Buffalo, Erie County

$1.6 Million for 73 homes in the Finger Lakes:

  • $350,000 grant to Rural Housing Opportunities Corporation to assist with the acquisition and rehabilitation of approximately 10 units on scattered sites in Genesee, Monroe and Orleans Counties
  • $750,000 grant to Marketview Heights Association, Inc., to assist with the improvement of approximately 25 units on scattered sites in Monroe County
  • $491,000 grant to NeighborWorks Rochester, Inc. to assist with the improvement of approximately 38 units on scattered sites in the City of Rochester, in Monroe County

$800,000 for 120 homes in New York City:

  • $800,000 to Neighborhood Housing Services of Staten Island to assist with the improvement of approximately 120 units on scattered sites in Richmond County

$766,000 for 29 homes in the Mohawk Valley:

  • $490,000 grant to Utica Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc., to assist with the home improvement of approximately 14 units located on scattered sites in the City of Utica, Oneida County
  • $276,000 grant to Fulton County Community Heritage Corporation to assist with the home improvement of approximately 15 units located on scattered sites in Fulton County

$600,000 for 20 homes in Central NY:

  • $600,000 grant to Onondaga County Community Development Division to assist with the acquisition and rehabilitation of approximately 20 units on scattered sites in Onondaga County

$280,000 for 7 homes in the Southern Tier:

  • $280,000 grant to Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. to assist with the new construction of seven townhouse units in the City of Ithaca in Tompkins County

The Affordable Home Ownership Development Program provides up to $40,000 per home to eligible municipalities, municipal housing authorities, and other not-for-profit and charitable organizations that develop affordable housing or assist homeowners in funding necessary repairs.
