Educating Property Owners, Managers
Faced with Possible Additional Regulation
April 18, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — As the warm weather arrives, bringing bed bug season with it, a group of industry experts will discuss New York City’s new bed bug regulations and the possibility of additional regulation for hotels and office buildings. The discussion will also address proposed standards and procedures for effective bed bug detection and prevention.
The event will be held on May 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at the Real Estate Board of New York in Manhattan. The discussion will feature Dan Margulies, executive director, Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York; George Shea, a partner in Bed Bug Super Dogs, a canine scent detection company serving the real estate industry; and Louis Sorkin, entomologist. Jonathan Schein of ScheinMedia will moderate the discussion.
Bed bug infestation has become an increasingly problematic issue for property owners and managers, who face a growing set of city regulations on detection, remediation and notification. Recently established New York City regulations require owners of rental residential property to inspect all units surrounding an affected unit and to notify tenants if bed bugs are found. These regulations may be the forerunners of regulations for office buildings, hotels, theaters and other property.
The event will be the first time that proposed industry standards for inspections of commercial and residential space are presented and discussed. The standards are designed to protect owners and managers concerned over inspections and remediation efforts.
The event, which will include a live canine inspection demonstration, will be held in the Mendik Room at the Real Estate Board of New York, 570 Lexington Avenue at 51st Street in Manhattan. Coffee and refreshments served at 8 a.m.; program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. To attend, please email RSVP (at) BedBugSuperDogs (dot) com.
