BROOKLYN’S COMMUNITY BOARD 3 HOSTS LANDMARKING MEETING

Brooklyn, NY – February 16, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — An open forum community meeting regarding the creation landmark designation will be held at 6:30 on February 16th at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation is located at 1368 Fulton Street.

Officials from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) have been invited to discuss the landmark designation process and what it means to homeowners.. Residents of the neighborhood will be able to ask questions about the landmarking process and what it means to the community.

Requests for 5 proposed historic districts in Bedford Stuyvesant: Bedford Corners, Stuyvesant East, Stuyvesant Heights Extension, Stuyvesant North and Stuyvesant West have been submitted to LPC.
The 32 building enclave of Alice and Agate Courts were designation in 2008, however, the designation of the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District in 1971 is the only large district in Bedford Stuyvesant.

Community 3 and the Bedford Stuyvesant Society for Historic Preservation hope to see a new district designated in 2012 and the remaining districts designated over the next few years. Designation of a new historic district in Bedford Stuyvesant has garnered the support of City Councilmember Al Vann, the Community Board and other elected officials.
