New York – (RealEstateRama) — New Destiny Housing Corporation, a non-profit developer of affordable housing for families, has started construction on its newest mixed income housing project – The Jennings, located on Jennings Street in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx. The Jennings will be an eight-story building with 42 apartments affordable for low-income households from the community with 23 apartments reserved for families coming from New York City domestic violence shelters. Project completion is expected in spring 2019.

New Destiny Housing

The Jennings is designed to address the lack of affordable housing for families in the Bronx and to create a sense of community for domestic violence survivors who have had to flee familiar neighborhoods, as well as family and friends, to become safe. The building will include a multi-purpose room for resident meetings and events, a library/computer room, a children’s room, bicycle and stroller storage, a landscaped back yard with a children’s play area, a laundry room and offices for support services staff. To foster health and energy efficiency, The Jennings will participate in the Enterprise Green Communities and NYSERDA programs.

New Destiny will offer on-site services tailored to the needs of families with recent histories of domestic abuse. Services will include safety planning, case management, job readiness assistance and financial planning as well as children and family programming to help families rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient

New Destiny is the developer of The Jennings and will own and manage the project. Alex Gorlin is the architect and Lettire Construction is the general contractor. Funding is being provided by New York State Homes and Community Renewal, New York State Homeless Housing and Assistance Corporation, New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Corporation for Supportive Housing, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Enterprise Community Partners, TD Bank, Deutsche Bank and the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative.
