ALBANY, NY - February 12, 2015 - (RealEstateRama) -- Today, Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein and fellow IDC members released an extensive report outlining the financial obstacles facing New York’s senior population. In order to help make life more affordable for seniors, the IDC unveiled a litany of proposals that include a new senior utility circuit breaker program that will save taxpayers millions, the creation of a utility consumer advocate to fight unscrupulous rate increases, and plans to tackle the affordable housing crisis for seniors by constructing new developments all across the state. As a cornerstone of the IDC’s Invest NY plan, finding solutions to these problems are paramount in order to promote stability and financial security for all New York seniors.

Governor Announces $7.3 Million in New Funding Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C. - February 10, 2015 - (RealEstateRama) --Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced th at New York State supported a record 9,363 affordable housing units in 2014. The Governor also announced $7.3 million in funding for the construction and rehabilitation of 19 affordable homeownership developments that represent more than 500 homes across the state. These milestones include units produced by the Governor’s $1 billion House NY commitment, which is on track to finance more than 14,300 affordable housing units by 2018.

SENATOR KLEIN CALLS FOR EVEN MORE RELIEF FOR NEW YORK CITY HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS

ALBANY, NY - February 9, 2015 - (RealEstateRama) -- Today, Independent Democratic Conference Leader Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) called for broadening tax relief for New York City homeowners and renters that would otherwise not be included in the original property tax circuit breaker first proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. In order to provide more meaningful relief to New York City households, Klein unveiled three proposals seeking to enhance the current circuit breaker plan that would: 1) factor in an individual or families’ city Personal Income Tax (PIT); 2) increase the maximum benefit to city renters and 3) increase the percent of annual rent that is attributed to property taxes to up to 20%.
