Jones Lang LaSalle Selected by Italian Trade Commission to Market, Sell 33 East 67th Street in New York

Prestigious five-story, Upper East Side mansion offers unique commercial, residential opportunity

NEW YORK, NY – July 14, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Jones Lang LaSalle has been selected by the Italian Trade Commission to market 33 East 67th Street, once known as the Hugh D. Auchincloss House. Constructed originally as a townhouse, the five-story mansion is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and serves as the home of the ITC.

The seller, the Italian Trade Commission, is being represented by Ellen Herman and Janet Woods, executive vice presidents, with the Non-Profit Practice Group and Glenn Tolchin, executive vice president, with Capital Markets, all with Jones Lang LaSalle’s New York office. The property will be sold at auction via a sealed-bid sale scheduled for Sept. 7, 2011. The minimum base auction price has been set at $32.2 million.

“This prestigious Upper East Side mansion offers a unique ownership opportunity on one of the neighborhood’s most desirable side-street locations,” said Herman. “The former private home is unusually wide, and features windows and natural lighting on three sides of the property. It is uniquely zoned for commercial and residential use, making 33 East 67th Street ideal for an impressive corporate or foundation office, an elegant personal residence, or a high-end space for some other commercial occupant. No other property on the market of this size and elegance can offer this flexibility in zoning and occupancy.”

The 18,789-square-foot Mansion has five floors and a basement, along with a sub-basement of approximately 3,195 square feet. It is located mid-block approximately 84 feet east of Madison Avenue and is situated on a 4,117-square-foot rectangular lot with 41 feet of frontage along the north side of East 67th Street. The building has a 5-foot wide access-way running along the western side of the structure from the sidewalk to the rear of the property.

“There are many details that make this property a truly unique opportunity for a prominent Manhattan address,” said Woods. “Aside from its unsurpassed location on the Upper East Side, 33 East 67th Street has a magnificent grand spiral staircase with a center light-well, six marble-faced fireplaces and original detailing and wood floors throughout the property. It also has a passenger elevator offering access to all five floors.”

The former Hugh D. Auchincloss House was designed as a single-family townhouse by architect Robertson and Potter and constructed in 1903. The mansion was converted to office use in 1940 and underwent a major renovation in 1994 prior to its purchase by the Italian Trade Commission.
