WASHINGTON – May 26, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises, today released the following statement on the impending nominations of Julián Castro to be the next secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Shaun Donovan as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) .
“The departure of Shaun Donovan leaves big shoes to fill at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. I’m grateful for all that Secretary Donovan has done at HUD. From working tirelessly to support our economic recovery and public housing, to recovering and rebuilding in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Secretary Donovan has set the bar very high, and I know he will make an outstanding Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
“I also congratulate President Obama on a very strong choice in the decision to nominate Julián Castro to take over the reins at HUD. Julián knows the challenges that cities face when it comes to housing. Over the past 5 years, he spearheaded San Antonio’s downtown revitalization program, which incentivized development, generated 17 new housing projects and a total local investment of $384 million. His “Decade of Downtown” program helped San Antonio address the inner city decay that has plagued so many American cities.
“I look forward to learning more about Mayor Castro’s plans for the department, but from what I know so far he has the experience and leadership skills we need at HUD”
