March 4, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano would like to let resident’s know that the Nassau County Office of Housing & Homeless Service Homeownership Center offers FREE Foreclosure/Default Prevention Counseling Services to assist homeowners in Nassau County who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments due to a financial hardship.
“Our trained and certified housing counselors can help homeowners in negotiating a possible resolution with their lender or servicer and review all available options,” said County Executive Mangano. “In these times of economic hardship I want all residents to know that this service is available free of charge.”
In June of 2010, the New York State Banking Department reported that between February 13th, 2010 and May 31st 2010, 57,256 Pre- Foreclosure Filing Notices (PFF) were mailed out in New York State. Out of those 5,755 were mailed out in Nassau County alone. That is 10.1% of the PFF state total.
Our Certified Housing counselors are available to:
* determine the extent of the default;
* determine homeownership affordability;
* understand timeline of a foreclosure in New York State;
* review budget and household expenses;
* review options to avoid foreclosure;
* negotiate with lenders or servicers;
* explain loss mitigation options;
* provide legal referrals; and
* provide other community resources.
The Nassau County Office of Housing & Homeless Service Homeownership Center has a working relationship with the Nassau County Bar Association where homeowners can receive free legal advice at the mortgage foreclosure clinics given monthly.
