Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano visited Dutch Broadway Elementary School in Elmont, on Friday, June 3rd, to celebrate the staff and students’ participation in the 4th Annual Building Homes for Heroes Walk-a-thon. The proceeds from the walk-a-thon are used towards Building Homes for Heroes, a national non-profit organization that rebuilds or modifies homes and gifts them mortgage-free to veterans and their families.

DNR PARTNERS WITH HOMEOWNERS TO RESURFACE ENGMAN LAKE ACCESS ROAD IN MARQUETTE COUNTY
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Engman Lake Access Road in Marquette County will be resurfaced beginning Monday, June 6. The DNR is teaming up with more than a dozen Engman Lake Homeowners in the area to fund materials for the project, which cost an estimated $6,000. The DNR is doing the road work.

The rental assistance announced today is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA. Cities receiving voucher funding include Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo and New York.

New York State announced the launch of Phase One of the Homelessness Action Plan, which is part of a multifaceted, focused and comprehensive package of initiatives involving multiple agencies. In his 2016 State of the State address, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo proposed a historic $10.4 billion commitment to combat homelessness statewide over the next five years, which includes $2.6 billion for new supportive housing units and $7.8 billion for continuing commitments in support of existing supportive housing units, shelter beds, and other homeless services.
