New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Commissioner Vicki Been released the new list of residential buildings that have been placed into the agency’s Ninth Round of the Alternative Enforcement Program (AEP). The AEP is aimed at increasing the pressure on the owners of the City’s multifamily residential buildings that have fallen into disrepair, many of which are rent-regulated, to bring the properties up to code so that the residents are not forced to live in substandard and hazardous conditions.
Rockefeller Center® Christmas Tree goes home with Habitat for Humanity
As the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree leaves the plaza Jan. 9, its next journey will bring new life to a Habitat for Humanity home. In a nearly decadelong tradition, Tishman Speyer, the owner and manager of Rockefeller Center, will donate lumber from the tree to Habitat for Humanity. This year, the 78-foot-tall Norway spruce will stay in its home state of New York where it will be used by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh.
New York Fed Concludes the Mortgage Operations Counterparty Pilot Program
The New York Fed concluded its Mortgage Operations Counterparty (MOC) Pilot Program on December 31, 2015. The intent of the program, which was announced in August 2014, was to explore ways to broaden the range of firms acting as counterparties in the Federal Reserve’s open market operations, and to determine the extent to which firms beyond the Primary Dealer community can augment the New York Fed’s operational capacity and resiliency in its monetary policy operations.
Empire State housing market posts highest November sales total since 2009
Closed home sales in New York State jumped 7.1 percent in November 2015 compared to last November, reaching the highest total for the month in six years, according to the housing market report released today by the New York State Association of REALTORS®. The Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development (ANHD), New Economy Project, Legal Services NYC, and the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) are profoundly disappointed that a U.S. district court has ruled in favor of the banking industry in striking down the NYC Responsible Banking Act (RBA). The RBA is an important transparency law that would allow the City to collect information about how well banks are serving local communities, and to consider this information when deciding where to place its deposits. Our organizations, several of which filed a detailed amicus brief in the case, call on the City to appeal this decision.
