Albany, NY – June 8, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — REALTORS from across New York State will travel to Albany on Tuesday, June 9, to show their support for an extension of the state’s successful property tax cap, which has helped make homeownership more affordable for both new and long-time New York homeowners.
“New York’s REALTORS will be giving voice to the needs of beleaguered Empire State homeowners tomorrow as they urge their lawmakers to support the extension of the property tax cap,” said Duncan R. MacKenzie, CEO of the New York State Association of REALTORS.
“No one fought harder for enactment of the initial property tax cap than New York’s REALTORS. Our members have been on the fighting lines of tax relief for decades and know first-hand the make-or-break situations high taxes create,” said MacKenzie.
“REALTORS are the only organized group who speak directly on behalf of current and future homeowners and we will use our meetings in Albany tomorrow to emphasize beyond any doubt that the tax cap must be extended,” said MacKenzie. “We reject the notion that an extension is not urgent because the tax cap doesn’t expire until June 15, 2016. It’s never the wrong time to do the right thing.”
Additionally, REALTORS will be discussing other key issues including: a proposed tax credit for the installation of a residential sprinkler system; the codification of real estate teams in New York’s Real Property Law; greater transparency in the cooperative apartment buying process; first-time homebuyer programs; and opposition to all increases in real estate transfer taxes.
Editor’s Note: Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan will speak during the REALTOR Lobby Day event, which will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, in Meeting Room 6 at the Empire State Plaza.
The New York State Association of REALTORS is a not-for-profit trade organization representing more than 50,000 of New York State’s real estate professionals. The term REALTOR is a registered trademark, which identifies real estate professionals who subscribe to a strict code of ethics as members of the National Association of REALTORS. These REALTORS are also members of the New York State Association of REALTORS as well as their local board or association of REALTORS.
