Rochester Program for Gun Violence Survivors Gets $500,000 for Emergency Housing

Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY) announced $500,000 in federal funding for Rise Up Rochester’s Safe Housing Gun Violence Response Program in Rochester, New York. The money was secured through the Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding process.

Rise Up Rochester, working with Coordinated Care Services, Inc., will use it to provide real-time relocation assistance and temporary housing support so individuals and families can move to safer living environments after incidents of gun violence. The program also offers victim advocacy, court accompaniment for survivors in legal proceedings, transportation assistance and other support services.

Chiamaka Ikpeze, Rise Up Rochester’s executive director, said the funding allows the group to provide immediate safety, housing support and advocacy for survivors and families.

Why it matters
