HCR’s Public Housing Modernization Program Enhances Safety
New York – (RealEstateRama) — New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) announced that the Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC) approved a $154,868 grant to the Utica Municipal Housing Authority in Oneida County for completion of essential security enhancements at the 93-unit Chancellor Apartments at 417 Bleecker Street. The HTFC Board awarded the funds under the Public Housing Modernization Drug Elimination program.
HCR Commissioner James S. Rubin said: “Governor Cuomo has long maintained that New Yorkers in every part of the state should have access to housing opportunities that are not only affordable, but safe and secure as well. Senior residents and those with physical challenges at the Chancellor Apartments should feel an added sense of comfort with the array of improvements at this valuable housing resource.”
The Housing Authority will use the funds to increase the capacity and efficiency of the complex’s emergency generator. This new funding comes on top of a 2015 grant that funded security cameras, exterior lighting, an emergency generator replacement, a 911 call system, elevator telephone, balcony protective screens, and key fob entry system.
The six-story Chancellor Apartments building was completed in 1978 and is home to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The complex is located on a main bus route and is within walking distance of downtown Utica and local shopping and restaurants.
The funding is provided through the State’s Public Housing Modernization Drug Elimination program, part of a modernization program that provides grants to public housing developments where rental income is insufficient and funds are unavailable from other sources for needed repairs and improvements.
