WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 26, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Today Rep. Eric Massa announced his support for extending the first-time homeowners tax credit of $8,000 for new homeowners. This program was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and applies to first-time homeowners that close on a house between January 1, 2009 and December 1, 2009. This significant tax incentive has helped thousands of families achieve the American dream of homeownership and has also strengthened the real estate, construction and construction supply industries. Extending this tax cut for another 12 months makes sense and Rep. Massa will fight for it.
“The Recovery Act was roughly 1/3 tax cuts and I think we need to extend programs that work,” said Rep. Eric Massa. “Giving tax cuts to new homeowners not only helps families, it rebuilds our economy and I want to see this program extended for another year. Realtors, contractors and suppliers are all asking us to extend this tax cut to strengthen their businesses, and I’m committed to fighting for these jobs. I want to see a bill to extend the first-time homeowners credit before the end of this session of Congress.”
“The families of Western New York and the Southern Tier expect Congress to fight for our local economy and this is a great way to create and protect jobs.”
