DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES OFFERING INSURANCE ASSISTANCE IN MANHATTAN, STATEN ISLAND, BROOKLYN AND QUEENS

Department Representatives Available to Answer Consumer Questions;
Storm Hotline Also Being Staffed to Help Storm Sandy Victims

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 11, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Benjamin M. Lawsky, Superintendent of Financial Services, announced that representatives of the Department of Financial Services will be at locations in Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens to help homeowners, renters and business owners with insurance-related issues stemming from damage caused by Storm Sandy.

The Department’s representatives will be available to meet with residents inside the agency’s Mobile Command Center, which will be stationed at these locations:

Manhattan

Tuesday, March 12 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on South Street, between Fulton and Beekman Streets with the NYC Business Recovery Zone.

Staten Island

Wednesday, March 13 – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2660 Hylan Blvd. with the NYC Business Recovery Zone.

Brooklyn

Thursday, March 14 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 11 Catherine St. with the NYC Business Recovery Zone.

Queens

Friday, March 15 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at C-Town/Rockaway Beach Shopping Center, 8715 Rockaway Beach Blvd.

Staten Island

Saturday, March 16 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Senator Andrew Lanza’s Storm Relief Tent, corner of Mansion and Whitman Avenues.

Department representatives will help citizens contact their insurers if they have been unable to do so and answer questions about homeowners’, renters’ and business owners’ insurance coverage.

Citizens unable to go to the Mobile Command Center are encouraged to call the Department’s storm hotline (800) 339-1759 which is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Insurance information is also available on the Department’s website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
