New York NY – August 16, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — On July 23rd the Hudson River Park Trust officially opened the newly redeveloped north Tribeca segment, located between West Houston and Laight Streets. Part of larger, 550-acre Hudson River Park plan, the half-mile-long waterfront section brings new tennis and basketball courts, a nature walk, and granite-paved esplanade to the neighborhood.
The $16.3 million project was funded by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and the State and City of New York. The redevelopment plan extends southward to Piers 25 and 26, which are currently undergoing infrastructure rehabilitation. Architecture firm Sasaki Associates designed the overall plan for the Tribeca segment, with Mathews Nielsen as the project’s landscape architecture team for both the piers and “uplands” (shore areas).
When complete, Piers 25 and 26, located between Franklin and Hubert Streets, will include a playground, skate park, basketball court, water taxi dock, dog run, lawns, and community boathouse. That segment is slated to open in early 2010.
