New York, NY – June 17, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — At 10:00 last night, the Governor announced that the legislature had failed to extend New York State rent stabilization and rent control laws and that those protections for tenants would expire, at least for the next few days. The assumption is that the laws will eventually be extended, and that tenants will again be protected, but that there may be a short period during which the protections have ended.
Legal Services NYC has partnered with the Mayor and the Legal Aid Society to provide emergency services for tenants who fear that they will no longer be protected by the rent regulation laws.
Our message is: Don’t worry. Don’t move out. Don’t take buy-out offers from your landlord. Don’t make agreements in court based on landlord claims that you are no longer protected by the rent laws. If you are feeling harassed by your landlord or confused about your rights, call us.
