WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 12, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano encourages residents to support Island Harvest Food Bank as they partner up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) by participating in their Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign on Saturday, May 10, 2014. As Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization and the National Association of Letter Carriers team up for the nation’s largest single-day food drive, postal carriers across the nation will collect nonperishable food items left by generous homeowners.
Participating in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple, all one has to do is leave non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, boxed juices (etc.) next to their mailbox prior to regularly scheduled mail delivery on Saturday, May 10th. All proceeds will benefit Island Harvest in providing food donations for more than 300,000 Long Islanders and help to replenish Long Island food pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding programs provided by Island Harvest.
“As many Long Islanders struggle and suffer from hunger every day, I encourage all residents to help their neighbors and communities by taking part in the Island Harvest ‘Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive’”, said County Executive Mangano. “I thank Island Harvest for their dedication to providing food to those in need. The work Island Harvest does each and every day is inspiring and I commend them for this service.”
