WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 13, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today reaffirmed her opposition to the planned homeless shelter in Glendale, Queens.
In a letter prepared for today’s city hearing on the plan, Meng reiterated that the Cooper Avenue site, presently a vacant factory, is an inappropriate location for such a facility. She also criticized the lack of time that area residents had to review the proposal.

Under the proposal, the group Samaritan Village is seeking to convert the plant at 78-16 Cooper Avenue into a shelter to house 125 families beginning this summer.
Meng first announced her opposition to the plan this past summer when the proposal was unveiled. She made her opposition known with Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi, State Senator Joe Addabbo Jr, Assemblyman Michael Miller and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.
