QUILT SHOW COMES TO HISTORIC LANSING MANOR NEXT WEEKEND

NORTH BLENHEIM – June 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Handmade quilts by individuals and groups from Schoharie, Greene, and Delaware counties and other nearby towns will be on display at the Thirteenth Annual Lansing Manor Quilt Show at the New York Power Authority’s Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center complex on June 6-7 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

There is no charge for the quilt show, which includes a drawing for a gift basket of quilters’ supplies.

In addition, June 6 will feature a Textile Day in conjunction with the Jefferson Historical Society. Various textiles and demonstrations will be featured along with textile vendors showcasing many items for sale.

There will be two speakers at 1 p.m., Rabbit Goody, from Thistle Hill Weavers, who has been weaving luxurious custom fabrics, carpet, and trim for designers, home owners, museums, and the film industry for over 20 years, and Dr. Jacqui Atkins a Curatorial Consultant/Textile Historian who will speaking about quilting in Japan.

In addition, participants can bring textile items to be appraised “Antique Roadshow-style for a donation of $3 per item with a limit of three items to benefit the Jefferson Historical Society.

Free tours of Lansing Manor House will also be available.

The Lansing Manor House is filled with authentic furnishings from the first half of the 19th century. The house, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is operated as a museum by NYPA in cooperation with the Schoharie County Historical Society.  It is marking its 37th season as a museum, and is open daily, except Tuesdays, May through October, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information and a complete calendar of events, please call 800-724-0309 or visit www.nypa.gov/vc/blengil.htm.

After viewing the quilts and touring Lansing Manor, plan on a visit to the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center.  It is housed in a restored 19th-century dairy barn, adjacent to the Lansing Manor House. The center features a wide range of interactive exhibits on such subjects as Basics of Electricity, Uses of Electricity and operation of the Blenheim-Gilboa project.

The complex is located on Route 30, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and five miles north of Grand Gorge, about one hour from Albany.
