WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 16, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Tom Reed announced renewed funding for local non-profit programs which prevent homelessness among veterans and their families. “Our veterans and their families have sacrificed so much for us and our nation, the least we can do is make sure they aren’t living on the streets,” said Reed. “I care about taking care of our veterans and it’s only fair we protect them from many of the uncertainties and challenges they face after military separation.”
Over 5 million dollars will be distributed to non-profit programs across Western New York and the Southern Tier through the Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.
The organizations receiving the grants will include Soldier On of Delaware, Inc., Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. and Veterans Outreach Center, Inc.
Soldier On of Delaware assists veterans in numerous counties including Seneca, Schuyler, Tompkins and Steuben. Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. provides assistance in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua, among others and Veterans Outreach Center, Inc. operates within Monroe and Livingston.
Under the SSVF program, VA awards grants to private non-profit organizations that can provide supportive services to very low-income Veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. Providers offer eligible veterans with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefits. These benefits may include health care services, daily living services, personal financial planning services, transportation services, legal services, child care services, housing counseling services and emergency cash assistance for qualifying expenses.
