Reed Fights for Low Income Families, Affordable Housing

WASHINGTON, DC – (RealEstateRama) — In his continued efforts to improve access to affordable housing, Tom Reed announced additional federal funding for affordable housing initiatives throughout the Southern Tier through the Arbor Housing and Development organization. “Stable, affordable housing is a critical need that is just out of reach for so many, especially kids, in our region,” said Reed. “We continue to work toward caring for those individuals and we want to make sure everyone has access to the resources they need to get a hand up out of poverty. This is another part of that process.”

Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation will receive $55,000 in connection with their partnership with NeighborWorks network.

“CHRIC is excited to receive $55,000 from its affiliate NeighborWorks America. This funding provides critical support to the organization and allows us to continue fulfilling our mission of promoting neighborhood stabilization, community revitalization, and economic development through projects and partnerships that positively impact Chautauqua County and its residents. The support from Congressman Reed towards continuing funding of our NeighborWorks affiliate is essential in ensuring resources continue coming into the county,” said Josh Freifeld, Executive Director of Chautauqua Home Rehab & Improvement Corporation.

NeighborWorks is a public nonprofit organization, established by Congress in 1978 to help encourage homeownership. The grant is funding through funds authorized by Congress, which Reed supported late last year.

According to NeighborWorks, the organization uses a small portion of federal funding to build private investments into affordable housing initiatives. “In FY 2015, the NeighborWorks America network leveraged $50 dollars of other investments for every $1 in federal funding, resulting in a direct investment of $6.7 billion in communities last fiscal year. NeighborWorks’ investments are working to truly make a difference in communities across the country,” said NeighborWorks America’s President and CEO Paul Weech.

In 2015, federal housing funding distributed through NeighborWorks assisted over 355,900 families nationwide.
