Aid will allow four local school districts to pass more than $6 million in savings to property taxpayers
New York – (RealEstateRama) — Tom Reed was joined this afternoon by the superintendents of the Gowanda, Lake Shore, Salamanca and Silver Creek school districts to announce that those four districts will collectively receive more than $6 million in Federal Impact Aid in 2016. Impact Aid compensates local schools for “substantial and continuing financial burden” resulting from federal activities such as when Native American populations and activities adversely impact the local tax base. This is why aid is available to these school districts.
It is estimated that the aid could lower the average school property tax bill by anywhere from $190 for Silver Creek households to potentially more than $1,000 for Salamanca households. “By partnering with local school districts we are able to protect local taxpayers from unfair property tax increases. Taxpayers already pay too much in property taxes. They should not have to pay more just because government action has harmed their tax base,” said Reed. “Never forget, whenever we can, we will stand with and work tirelessly to protect our local residents.”
Reed was instrumental in paving the way for the Salamanca City School District to first receive Impact Aid three years ago and has since expanded that work to include additional school districts. The Salamanca City Central School District has received a total of $12,228,904 since 2014. Silver Creek Central School District receives $201,085 in 2016. Gowanda Central School District receives $884,889 in 2016. Lake Shore Central School District receives $483,127 in 2016.
Superintendents Robert Breindenstein (Salamanca), Todd Crandall (Silver Creek), James Klubek (Gowanda) and James Przepasniak (Lake Shore) joined Reed for the announcement held in Silver Creek.
