Funding Will Support Housing Authorities Throughout Nassau and Suffolk County
Washington, D.C. – February 13, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $4,477,146 in federal funding for housing authorities throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program. These funds will be used to modernize and develop affordable housing for low-income, working families in the region.
“Having a roof over your head is one of life’s basic necessities, so we must do everything we can to help provide those truly in need with a place to live. This federal funding will help support housing initiatives throughout Long Island that assist needy families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities to find an affordable place to live,” said Senator Schumer.
“All New Yorkers should have a place to live that is safe and affordable,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This critical funding will help ensure Long Island families and seniors have access to safe affordable housing options and that the community’s needs are met.”
Funding will be used for various housing authorities throughout Long Island. Nassau County will receive $4,006,668; and Suffolk County will receive $470,478. The full list of organizations receiving funding is below:

•$397,032 for the Freeport Housing Authority
•$360,833 for the Glen Cove Public Housing Authority
•$492,615 for the Housing Authority of Long Beach
•$157,241 for the North Hempstead Housing Authority
•$38,418 for the Rockville Centre Housing Authority
•$1,228,063 for the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority
•$405,580 for the Village of Hempstead Housing Authority
•$62,574 for the Great Neck Housing Authority
•$864,312 for the Town of Oyster Bay Housing Authority
Suffolk County
•$100,336 for the Huntington Housing Authority
•$370,142 for the Town of Islip Housing Authority
HUD’s Office of Capital Improvement administers the Capital Fund program, which provides funds annually public housing agencies (PHAs) across the country. PHAs may use Capital Fund grants for development, financing, modernization, and management improvements. Assistance must be used to modernize and/or develop public housing and must comply with the eligible activities of Section 9(d) of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937.
