ALBANY – July 15, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY) released the following statement after confirming with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that the federal government is no longer considering Kenwood Academy in Albany as a potential facility to house undocumented children. Tonko’s office has also confirmed that Syracuse is the only location in the state of New York currently being considered by HHS.
“This morning, my office confirmed with HHS that Kenwood Academy is no longer being considered as a potential temporary housing facility for undocumented children apprehended at the southern border. No other facilities in the Capital Region are currently being considered by HHS.
As we move forward, I once again call on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders and fixes our broken current system. I am a cosponsor of H.R. 15, a bipartisan solution to this problem that has already passed the Senate and awaits approval from the House.
This is an issue that affects all of our communities and needs a swift response. That is why I support the President’s request for emergency funding to secure the border, ensure we follow current law, and provide humanitarian relief to those in need.”
