New York, NY – July 16, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Turner Construction Company, the nation’s leading general builder, has been selected by New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) in cooperation with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to manage the demolition of the original Yankee Stadium and construction of Heritage Field, a 10-acre public recreational facility to be built at the site of the original stadium in the Bronx, N.Y. Demolition of the original stadium is underway to make way for construction of Heritage Field scheduled for completion by Fall 2011.
Heritage Field will include a championship lighted baseball field, softball field, Little League playing field and track and field spaces. The scope of work also includes reconstruction of Ruppert Place to serve as a pedestrian walkway and plaza, and site and infrastructure improvements. In addition, more than 500 trees will be planted in Heritage Field.
